Algarve Apartments
 A great choice if you're budget-conscious,
Algarve apartments offer more flexibility than just a cheap room ever could. And they're just the thing if you intend to undertake a lot of travel in the Algarve during your holiday.
While I've enthused at length on this website about Algarve villas and their indisputable charms, if you intend to tour around Algarve, rather than stay in one area, then one of the many available
Algarve holiday apartments might be just the right choice for you!
Like most categories of accommodation within the vacation-centric Algarve, there are many levels of differing sophistication within that general term 'Algarve apartments'.

By the way, if you're interested in buying an Algarve
apartment, rather than renting, you should check out my Algarve
Real Estate page).
There are expensive apartments and there are cheap Algarve apartments. Some will set you back upwards of £1000 per week, others as little as £100 - £150, depending on the time of
year.
(Note: 1 UK Pound is worth around 1.5 Euros or 1.95 US Dollars at
2007 rates).
Some Algarve apartment rentals can be almost as swish as top-flight hotels or luxurious villas. Others are little more than a studio room with separate bathroom facilities.
But, in the middle, there's lots of choice for the majority of Algarve holiday-makers!
When my husband Nev was scouring the Internet, checking out Algarve apartment rentals for
a vacation, we knew that we would be travelling hither and thither in our search for an Algarve
holiday home of our own.
This meant that we wanted some comfortable, no-frills accommodation to use as our base, while we set out most days on our quest. As it turned out, we loved our little apartment in
Almancil...

The pool and garden from our north terrace
For just the two of us, we needed only one bedroom, a sitting room, a kitchen and a bathroom, which is exactly what we ended up with.
But, we also benefitted from two balconies, both with fine views, a secure courtyard in which to park our hire car -- and unlimited use of the pool when it got really hot.
We spent most mornings at our Almancil apartment, planning our next excursion (and the weather was so nice that we usually had to force ourselves to pack our few daily requirements). And most
evenings, we just flopped out on one of the terraces after our meal and the exertions of the day...
So, in a nutshell, our Algarve apartment in Almancil was just the ticket.
The kitchen had a gas hob and a microwave oven, which were entirely adequate. I wasn't looking to whip up any 5-course, cordon bleu extravaganzas -- this was my Algarve vacation, after all!
Our holiday breakfasts tend to be cereal and toast, with strong filter coffee for Nev and a nice mug of Rooibos tea for me.
(But once I found that our local 'Alisuper' sold morning-fresh croissants, I must admit to varying that routine a little).
Fabulous - I hardly ever need
to wear sunglasses during breakfast!
The pool was at the bottom of the garden, only a short shuffle from our Algarve apartment. On days when we were resting from property-hunting, we chilled out pool-side for a couple of hours and
just enjoyed the leisure time in the warm sunlight.

Nev hits the sunlounger after a hard morning's route planning...
We took the opportunity to walk (and drive) around Almancil during spare moments, and were amazed that, up to then, we had been so ignorant about this great area. It's got a huge choice of restaurants, all within an easy drive (some even a walk!). And there are plenty of things to see and do, some of which will be the subject of future pages on
this website...
Yet, although we drove around a lot (and I do mean a lot!) we still managed to include lots of sightseeing and even some "art 'n' culture" during our stay. (More on that in forthcoming
pages - details in the monthly e-zine).
We certainly fitted a lot into our week!
Sidenote:
Although we didn't find any real estate to buy
that time, we persevered - and are now living full-time in
Algarve!
