Algarve Art Gallery

David Haines is a Welsh-born artist who now has his own Algarve art gallery! David moved to the Algarve some years ago and now enjoys producing his art in a very different climate. Accomplished in both painting and sculpting, David is a life-long creative practitioner, who loves working, but is also happy to encourage others' artistic endeavours...
It's almost impossible, unless
you only go out at night, not to realise that the
light in the Algarve is something special.
With the wonders of modern
travel, it's not that far between Newport in Wales
to Guia, but the landscape and light are very different for an artist. It didn't take long for David to make his mark on the local art scene in the Algarve, and he regularly exhibits all over the region.
I've often admired David's work when I've encountered
it, when out and about in Algarve.
Now David and his partner have opened
the Guia gallery and studio, where you can enjoy the work on show
- and even try your hand at producing art yourself.

The gallery premises are spread over a spacious 90 square metres on two floors, with more than 90 of David's works on display at any one time, in a variety of styles and different media.
Algarve Art Lessons
The lessons are restricted to five students per
session, so a telephone enquiry is vital for reserving a place. Lessons are a useful 2.5 hours, and cost a very reasonable 15 euros per person. Choose from drawing in pencil or painting in oils - a great way to while away a rainy morning or afternoon!

Morning lessons are from 1000 to 1230, and afternoons are 1330 to 1600, while Saturday lessons are mornings only.
Minimum age is 10 years, and it doesn't matter whether you're a local resident or a vacationing visitor - just get in touch and book your place!
If you're a beginner, or are just looking to develop your own style, David will be pleased to assist and instruct.
Design du Boulay
Also on show are the jewellery pieces designed and displayed by David's partner, Marilyn. They're called Design du Boulay, and you can select your own combinations of beads and spacers to see a unique design take shape. Or, choose from finished articles, such as bracelets, earrings and necklaces.

David's Art History
With a first wooden sculpture produced at age 9, David went on to exhibit in galleries all over Wales. His technique is largely self-taught, but is informed by his fascination with, and decades-long study of, the tragic Dutch master, van
Gogh.
Painting in both oils and acrylic, David produces work in varied styles on canvas and wood, that reflect his emotional reaction to colour and light.
Why not investigate, and see whether you're inspired to purchase a picture for yourself, or learn how to produce your own.
