Fiesa 2009: Mark's Day Out
I'm asking Algarve Beach Life visitors to
contribute their own impressions of Fiesa 2009 - and
the first is Mark Racht. So thanks, Mark, for the words and
pics about your day out in Pera!
Mark did have an early problem, since my
website's email system goes a bit wobbly when it's
confronted with (very) large files such as digital pictures.
We got there eventually, though, which speaks volumes for
his perseverance.
Here's what Mark had to say (and share):

The 2009 motif exhibit
Hi Jennifer,
I visited the Algarve with my 17-year-old daughter
Abby and my girlfriend from Spain on June 2nd and 3rd.
While I had spent a Thanksgiving Holiday there last year (golfing) this trip was a planned portion of our
Spanish vacation just to visit FIESA 2009.
From the moment we parked the car we were totally in awe...

Many sculptures are
enormous, as you can see!
We spent a few hours roaming around then checked into the Vila Gale Nautico Hotel (very nice) and went back to FIESA
around 10-o'-clock that night.
Remind folks to get their tickets signed so they may return the same day at no additional cost.
As amazing as it was during the day, the site takes on a totally surreal aura under the many lights installed.

Fiesa 2009 at night
The food and beverages onsite were extremely tasty and very reasonably priced. Anyone that
misses the opportunity to visit this stunning display is
definitely crazy!

These cave-folk have
just discovered fire and have opted for a
BBQ --------------(must
have been a Bank Holiday weekend)
I've attached a couple of pictures, and I
apologize for the size, but I figured you would want the higher resolution. Seems
I have some 200 pictures taking up about 580MB on my thumb drive from FIESA
2009 alone...lol.

Jennifer's Response:
Thanks again, Mark, for some great
photographs and an enthusiastic account. I've been banging
on since 2004 about what a wonderful event each year's Fiesa
is, so it's great to have some back-up!
As Mark suggests, I do try to remember to
remind readers that they can come and go several times
during a single day on the one ticket. You just need to ask
to have your ticket marked when you leave, and you can go
off and enjoy some other Algarve activities (or food) before
returning to experience the entirely different mood of the
Fiesa site under the stars and amidst the mood music.
If you've been to Fiesa 2009 and you'd like to show others
what you enjoyed (or perhaps didn't like), please contact
me via the form below.
You can even send some photos of your own from your day out.
(And, if you've not been, but know people who have,
please bring this page to their attention and get them to
share...)
The Fiesa exhibition is open from 10.00 to midnight, and runs
from May 22 to October 22, 2009.
Kids can have free lessons in basic sand sculpting
techniques (only at advertised times) and
there are other amusements for them, and plenty of shaded areas
in which parents and elders can cool off.
Money-saving Tip:
At the risk of repeating myself if you've already seen
the main Fiesa 2009 page, you can find a copy of the
free
English-language newpaper "The Portugal News" (or
visit any Turismo office) and obtain a coupon for a 10% discount on a
Fiesa ticket (up to 5 adults per coupon).
