Tavira Apartment For Sale
Centre of Town

This Tavira apartment is an authentically charming property that, were I looking to buy, I would be happy to include
on my shortlist. As ever, if you're thinking of looking for
sun-drenched vacation apartments for sale, Algarve should be
top of your list.
Many people think 'Portugal apartment' rather than
'Algarve apartment' because they perceive the Algarve as
being too expensive, but just check what you're getting for
your money here...
The Tavira Area
If
you've read many pages on Algarve Beach Life, you'll
probably have encountered an enthusiastic reference or two
concerning Tavira. It's a beautiful town and one of
the most relaxing places I've encountered along the Algarve
coast.
Location
This
superbly-located, spacious second-floor apartment stands in
one of the most elegant old buildings within the historic
quarter of Tavira. It is close to the Roman bridge which
crosses the river Gilão and is handily-placed for
easy access to the main shopping area, the market and plenty
of cafes, restaurants and bars. It offers real 'town living' in one
of the Algarve's most rewardingly restful spots.
Accommodation
The
apartment has a living area of 172 m2, with three
double bedrooms, one of which has a fireplace and an alcove
study area. There is also a single bedroom, a large dressing
room, a utility room and two bathrooms.
The
large number of amply-proportioned windows and other glazing
give the apartment a wonderfully airy feel.
Sitting
/ Dining Room
This
is a large room (maximum
7.3 x 3 m), with wooden French windows opening on to
a small, street-side balcony. It also has a spiral
staircase leading up to a loft storage space and a roof
terrace area. There is a striking Gothic shaped window at the side of the stairs, onto the inner
stairwell. Suspended plank flooring. Ceiling fan.

Kitchen
Measuring
approximately
3.5 x 3 m, and having
been modernised with
marble work surfaces, and a gas-fired water heater (which
serves the entire apartment) the kitchen offers a
comfortable working area.
A door leads
onto a pleasant, L-shaped breakfast terrace, with an exit
route leading down an interior staircase that opens onto a
back street.
Bedroom 1
Serving as master bedroom, but with potential for
conversion into an extra sitting room to
utilize the fireplace. A large, airy room with three
windows, tiled floor, glazed
double doors, and double doors from the study area. Also
benefits from ceiling fan. Maximum dimensions of 4.7 x 5.5 m.
The study area has its own window out to the rear of
the property (shown in the photograph below).

Bedroom 2
Double bedroom
of 2.6 x 3.6 m at maximum. A bright, front-of-building room with large window and shutters,
giving out onto the street.
Bedroom
3
Double
bedroom of 3.2 x 3.6 m maximum. Another bright room, with large window and
shutters.
Bedroom
4
2.1 x 3.6 m single bedroom, or
could be used as a box room. Single, small window.
Dressing
Room
2.3 x 2.7 m,
off the corridor opposite the master bedroom.
Utility
Room
3 x 1.5 m with single, high window onto side street.
Bathroom
1
2 x 2.1 m, with WC, wash basin and window onto the back terrace.
Bathroom
2
1.1 x 3.6
m, with WC, bidet, wash basin, bath with overhead shower, and
a separate hand-held shower attachment. Window onto back terrace.
Terraces
The L-shaped terrace is accessed via the kitchen, and is a
lovely spot to enjoy an al fresco breakfast.

The
loft storage area is reached via a spiral staircase from the dining room. This gives onto a large open terrace,
with wonderful views across the rooftops (photograph
below) of the old town
to the Moorish Castelo, and the churches of Santa Maria
and Santiago on the other side of the river. There's
plenty of space for seating (7.5 x 3.5 m), giving a wonderful area to
relax and 'get away from it all'. Ah, the delights of
eastern Algarve property!
Even if you're not yet ready to live here full time,
this is an Algarve apartment with rental potential.

Points of Interest
Read on for a description of the area where this
Algarve apartment is located...

Apart from the beach at Ilha da Tavira, you're not far
from some other great Algarve
beaches, including Barril (above), Altura and
Monte
Gordo.
The nearby Ria Formosa natural area is a fantastic
latticework of sand and water, with lagoons that offer
sanctuary for an array of exotic and interesting
birds.
Although Tavira offers plenty of local restaurants, there
are more at Vila Real S. Antonio on the Guadiana river
border with Spain, with Monte Gordo adding more choice. You could
even try the nearby, (recommended by an Algarve Beach Life
reader) seafood restaurant
in Santa Luzia.
Access to the east-west A22 motorway
is only a few kilometres away, so you can zip along to visit
any part of Algarve you wish with minimal effort.
Of the several golf courses in the area, the nearest are Benamor, Quinta da Cima and Quinta
da Ria. To the west, the famous São Lourenço
course at Almancil is about 30 minutes drive away. But most of the wonderful golf facilities
in Algarve can be reached inside a one-hour drive.

If you're looking for an interesting and 'traditional' Algarve apartment,
then examples like this do not often come onto the market -
check it out soon!
